Abstract

A three-source heat transfer installation comprises three loops. The first loop, in liaison with a hot source, utilises a fluid which circulates through an evaporator, an expansion turbine, a condenser and a compression pump. The second loop, in liaison with a cold source, utilises a fluid which circulates through an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser and an expansion valve. The third loop, in liaison with a source at medium temp., includes the condensers of the first and second loops and the circuit of utilisation of the heat exchanged in these two condensers. A single fluid is used in the two first loops and the condensers of the first and second loops are combined. The turbine of the first loop and the compressor of the second loop include the same exhaust. Pref. the turbine of the first loop and the compressor of the second loop form a single machine comprising expansion and compression stages on the same rotor and in the same shell, the two parts of compression and expansion exhausting into the same condenser. An installation utilising a three-source system allows the recovery of one and a half times the quantity of heat supplied by the hot source. In addn. it does not demand the addn. of mechanical energy. The invention remedies the inconvenience of existing such installations resulting from the difficulty of obtg. good fluid-tightness of the turbine and the compressor. It improves the efficiency of such an installation while simplifying its structure.
