Abstract

900,812. Electromagnetic switches. MORSCHEL, F. March 23, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No: 10337/60. Class 38 (5). In an electromagnetic contactor having its electromagnet retained within a casing by a detachable insulating cover, an insulating contact-actuating member attached to the armature extends through holes in the cover into contact chambers. The fixed core 32 and armature 33 are identical E-shaped structures with undercut portions 39 which, in the case of the armature, engage complementary portions of the moulded contact-actuating member 23. The moulded cover 10 is secured by screws 11 at diagonally-opposite corners to the casing 1 and engages the former 34 of the coil 31 so that the core 32 is urged against a resilient foam rubber block 41 retained by walls 42 on the casing. Springs 40 between the former 34 and member 23 bias the core and armature apart and hollow posts 25 on the member 23 extend through holes in the cover 10 into chambers 16 formed by mutually perpendicular walls 14, 15 of the cover 10. Fixed contacts 17 are pushfitted in slots in the walls 14 and provided with terminal screws 19 which enter unthreaded holes 20 in the cover 10. Moving bridge contacts 22 are retained over locating projections on the ends of the posts 25 by compression springs 27 on keys 26 which are locked in the posts 25 by being inserted in a slot and turned through 90 degrees. Extensions 21 of the walls 15 outside the chambers 16 act as interphase barriers. A part 35 of the former 34 extends into an opening in the casing 1 and carries coil terminals 36. Additional contact devices 50 can be fitted on the top of the contact chambers 16 with resilient fingers 52 projecting from a moulded body 51 into the corners of the chambers 16 and an additional retaining finger 54 locked on to a projection 56 in the wall 15. The insulated head of the respective key 25 engages a contact spring 60 to normally hold contacts 59, 56 closed. These contacts may also be actuated by a manually-operable plunger 63. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), the springs 40 are replaced by resilient foam blocks, the auxiliary contact device has normally open contacts and the cover is secured to the casing by spring clips.
