Abstract

897,011. Hand wheels. CITROEN S.A., ANDRE. Jan. 8, 1959 [Jan. 22, 1958], No. 736/59. Class 80 (4). To facilitate access to the driver's seat of a motor vehicle having a steering-wheel of the kind in which the rim is attached to the curved end of the steering column 2, the attachment is pivoted so that the wheel can be rotated on the column in or at right-angles to its own plane. In Fig. 1, a lug 5 on the rim 1 pivots on a pin 6 and is locked in the driving position by a spring- loaded lever 9. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the rim is locked by a spring-loaded bolt slidable inside the column-end 3 to engage a notch in the lug 5, a further notch on each side being provided to locate the wheel in the non-driving positions. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the rim pivots about its own radius on a pin fixed to the radial end of the column and is locked to the column by interengaging dog clutch teeth released in opposition to a spring by pulling the wheel radially outwards, and is locked in the driving position by a spring-loaded lever.
