[Also in Group XXXVI] A crimping-mechanism for connecting electric terminals to wires comprises an anvil 36 having a horizontal top and a vertical front face 38, and a crimping die 40, movable downward over said anvil to crimp a metal tongue about a wire, said die having a vertical plane rear face 42 in the plane of the front face of the anvil, a rearwardly arched surface 44 extending from the upper end of said rear face, a step 46 at the end of said arched surface forming a rearward facing shoulder, and a rearward and downward sloping face 48 extending from said shoulder, said arched surface, shoulder and sloping face being directly over said anvil whereby to operate on an object to be crimped supported on said anvil. A connector member 20 has two tongues 22 and 52, the tongue 22 being provided with a stiffening rib or indentation 32 and an anchoring lug 34. In operation, the connector member 20 and the bared end 24 of the cable are placed on the anvil 36, Fig. 5, and the crimping die is lowered to form a crimped connection, Fig. 8, the lug 34 overlapping the tongue 22 to prevent the latter from relaxing its grip on the cable when the crimping pressure is removed. In a modification both tongues of the connector member are longitudinally corrugated as at 60, Fig. 9, and the anvil is provided with an elongated boss 68, Fig. 11, for indenting the underside of the tongue 22 as at 70, Fig. 12.
