Abstract

895,520. Toothed gearing. PATENT PRODUCTS (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. Sept. 18, 1959, No. 31906/59. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] A gear-wheel comprises a metal rim 2 with, respectively, a guide flange 4 or teeth 40, resiliently mounted on a hub 8 by means of two rubber or like rings 15, 16 having a space 17 between their adjacent ends and being free to expand laterally under compression at their remote ends, the rim 2 having a radially inwardly projecting central inner peripheral rib 6 of a depth in the range 1/ 20 th to <SP>1</SP>/ 30 th the overall diameter of the wheel, and the hub 8 having two lateral radial peripheral flanges 10, 14 straddling the rim rib 6 to define an annular open-ended space in which the rings 15, 16 are received, the hub flange 14 being detachably bolted or secured to the hub body to permit assembly of the rings 15, 16. As shown, the rim 6 has a radially inner surface of shallow V-formation, the limbs 22, 31 of which subtend angles of 15 and 10 degrees, respectively, with the wheel axis. The hub periphery 21 adjacent the fixed hub flange 10 is cylindrical and opposes the 15 degrees portion of the rim rib, and the remainder 32 of the hub periphery tapers away from the portion 21 at an angle of 10 degrees to the wheel axis. The resultant space defined flares axially outwardly in section on each side from the axial centre thereof into the anglesection lateral portions of the space. The rim rib 6 extends radially into line with the outer peripheries of the hub flanges 10, 14, and the rubber rings are of such thickness that they are radially compressed on assembly. The rings 15, 16 are shaped complemantarily to their respective portions of the space in which they are housed.
