In a lift system having three or more cars serving a plurality of landings, means for starting each car, and means, operable incident to the starting of a selected car from a given landing, for selecting the next car to be started from that landing, means are provided which, under conditions where at the time of selection no other car is at the said landing, but more than one car is travelling towards said landing and is within a predetermined selection zone, select the nearest one of such cars to said landing regardless of their order of previous departure from said landing. The Specification describes in detail a four car system serving a basement, a lower terminal floor at which the selections are made, and a plurality of upper floors. " Next car " and " Second car" illuminated indicators are provided for each car at the lower terminal landing. Specification 721,988 is referred to.
