Abstract

891,773. Valves. PORRINGER & SCHINDLER G.m.b.H. March 2, 1959 [March 1, 1958; Feb. 12, 1959], No. 7095/59. Class 135. A gate valve having a trapesoidal sectioned closure member 3 with a rounded base 4 mounting a resilient sealing means including a lower part 8 co-operating with the inner wall of the pipe 1 containing the valve and sealing under axial force from the operating spindle 13, and an upper part 9 between the top of the member 3 and a pressure member 10 associated with the spindle 13 which is deformable normally to the spindle axis to seal with the valve housing 2 confronting the top part of the closure member. The sealing ring 8 surrounds the closure member 3 and splits into two resilient flat plates 9. With the member 3 closed, further rotation of screwed spindle 13 moves nut 12 which shifts pressure member 10 downwards on bolts 11 securing it to the member 3 whereby lower sealing part 8 seals with the pipe wall and upper parts 9 are squeezed radially outward from the spindle axis to seal with housing 2. In another embodiment, the sealing means is formed by two anchored rings, the top of the closure member being curved to render the angled portion of the ring less acute. The member 3 carries guide wings 5.
