Abstract

891,505. Removing convolutions from plastic tubing. SUPERFLEXIT Ltd. Aug. 15, 1960 [Oct. 5, 1959], No. 33686/59. Class 87(2). A flexible tubular conduit or hose of plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, or a polyamide, and having internal and external, convolutions is heat treated for erasing the convolutions at one or both ends by placing the or each end into the space between coaxial cylinders 2, 3 provided with electric heating elements. A thermostat 6 extends into the heating space for de-energizing the heating elements when the end of plastic tube 4 has softened sufficiently to erase the convolutions. On completion of the heat treatment the end of the tube 4 is immediately quenched in water or other cooling liquid. Alternatively the heat treatment may be effected by radio frequency heating. Specification 18,187/58 is referred to.
