Abstract
891,118. Rectilinear-motion bearings. CONNER, G. O. Jan. 2, 1959, No. 165/59. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In guides for the two parts of a die set, e.g. similar to that described in Specification 665,261, comprising a leader pin and a guide sleeve with an interposed bearing in which the leader pin whilst reciprocating in the guide sleeve moves the bearing relatively to itself and the guide sleeve, the leader pin is coupled to the bearing preferably in a manner that maintains the proper positional relationship. The leader pin 41, Fig. 7, mounted on the reciprocating tool 7 has a tapered end 16 inserted into a guide sleeve 2 on the fixed tool 3 with the bearing 11 carrying balls 64 interposed. An adjustable peg 71 in the bearing 63 engages a block 47 resiliently mounted in a slot in the leader pin 41. In a modification the peg 31, Fig. 2, is mounted on or forms part of a C-spring 27 in a recess in the bearing 11 and engages the base of a slot 26 in the leader pin 20. The surface of the block 47 or the base of the slot 26 is shaped, e.g. as shown in the Figures, to counteract any tendency of the bearing to move out of its proper position in either or both directions and to retain the bearing on the leader pin.
