884,108. Making beryllium tubes. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept. 29, 1960 [Oct. 6, 1959], No. 33905/59. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A beryllium tube is made by boring a central hole in an extruded beryllium rod and then extruding the resulting billet to give a reduction in cross-sectional area of not more than fifteen to one. In an example a ¥ inch rod made by extruding compacted beryllium powder in a steel sheath was bored to form a “ inch hole, coated with graphite and extruded at 500‹ C. with a reduction ratio of 6.3 to 1 to form a tube of “ inch internal and # inch external diameter. In another example the bored-out rod with silver plated and extruded at 800‹ C. with a reduction of 12 to 1.
