Abstract

880,082. Expansion joints. YUBA CONSOLIDATED INDUSTRIES INC. Jan. 26, 1960 [Jan. 26, 1959], No. 2763/60. Class 99(1). End members 1, 2 adapted for connection to pipe-line sections are secured to the ends of a length of tubing 5 having multiple annular corrugations 6 capable of axial expansion and contraction, and at least one annular member 11 is positioned between a pair of adjacent corrugations of the tubing in supporting relation thereto, the member being confined to that pair of corrugations and moving axially of the tubing during contraction and expansion thereof and having a portion projecting beyond the peripheral extent of the tubing and in engagement with guide means 13. The latter is supported in fixed relation to one of the end members and there are means for limiting expansion and/or contraction of the tubing, those means comprising a stop 16 and a sleeve 15 secured to the guide means and effective upon predetermined changes in the axial dimension of the tubing. As shown, the corrugations are supported and reinforced by rings 10, and the ring or rings 11 is or are in two or more sections welded together. The guide sleeve 13 is secured to a flange 14 and overlaps a flange 17 which may be provided with rings in sealing engagement with the sleeve 13. Means co-operating with indicia on the sleeve indicates the condition of expansion and contraction of the tubing.
