Abstract

878,743. Bell-type furnaces. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE. A.G. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 4144/60. Class 51 (2). Steatite and pressed porcelain or other ceramic material is fired in a bell-type furnace system comprising a preheating furnace 1 with a flue 7, and a firing furnace 2 with a connection 8 to a cooling furnace 3 having a flue 9. The wave 6 is carried by trucks 5 hoisted into each furnace in turn by mechanism 4. Furnace 1 is heated by metallic resistances and furnace 2 by silicon carbide rods, the cooling furnace 3 being preheated to about 300‹ C. by hot gas supplied through connection 8 or by electric heaters. Reducing gas may be supplied to furnace 2 if hard porcelain is to be fired.
