Abstract
1,005,629. Electric furnaces. BRITISH FURNACES Ltd. May 21, 1964 [Oct. 21, 1963], No. 21012/64. Heading H5H. An electric carburizing furnace for case hardening articles on a conveyer 25 has resistive elements 32 of tubular form, the insides of which are subjected to decarburizing conditions. This may be by circulating a fluid through the tubes, e.g. steam, or air with or without the products of combustion of natural gas, preferably at furnace temperature, or the tubes may be packed with a solid such as iron oxide. The alternative use of plate type elements is mentioned.
