878,199. Chain-shift change-speed gear. HURET, A. M., HURET, R. M., and HURET, J. A. Aug. 25, 1959 [Oct. 2, 1958], No. 29002/59. Class 80 (2). Chain-shift change-speed gearing for bicycles &c. comprises a chain-shift wheel 7 mounted at the end of a parallelogram linkage 1, 9 ... 11 of which the link 1 forms a mounting bracket, the arrangement being such that on actuation of a control cable 12 to move a drive chain 5 from one to another of nested sprockets 4, the chainshift wheel moves substantially parallel to a line touching the teeth of the nested sprockets and located adjacent the guide wheel so that the chain is always guided thereon at approximately the same angle. The chain-shift wheel 7 is mounted between plates 6 carrying an idle wheel 8 biased by a coiled spring 19 to tension the chain. The spring 19 is surrounded by a case 18, which has an aperture coacting with a nut 20 1 fast with the support rod of the chainshift wheel 7. One end of the spring 19 engages a stop 6 1 fast with the plates 6, and the other end of the spring engages in the end of the case 18. On pushing the case 18 inwards, it is disengaged from the nut 20 1 so that it may be turned to tension the spring 19, release of tho case so that it re-engages the nut 20 1 holding it in a desired position. Adjustable stops 9 1 , 11 1 limit the movements of the pivoted links 9 ... 11.
