Abstract

876,210. Bottling. MEYER MANUFACTURING CO., GEO. J. June 18, 1959 [Feb. 16, 1959], No. 20950/59. Class 125(2). A filling nozzle for a counter pressure bottling machine, particularly for liquids having solid particles in them, comprises a liquid valve 20 which cooperates with valve seat 22, a tube 23 with valve element 25 which opens to allow the pressure in the bottle to be brought up to the same as that above the liquid level 28 in the filler bowls of which the member 12 forms the base and is characterised in that a cut-off valve 35 of rubber of other flexible material is provided below the liquid valve to stop air trapped in the bottle from passing back through the filling nozzle. The cut-off valve comprises a disc with a central hole 36 and radial cuts 38 arranged so that the truncated segments 40 may flex out of the plane of the disc. In a modification the cuts may be made as shown in Fig. 6. A shift valve is incorporated in the nozzle below the disc. It is stated that the surface tension of the liquid co-operating with the disc is sufficient to stop air passing through it.
