Abstract
876,181. Resilient couplings. TETLOW, N. Jan. 26, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 12834/58. Classes 80 (2) and 80 (3). A flexible coupling is provided with intermediate members between the driving and driven elements and engaging resilient means which produces a couple resisting that due to the applied torque. As shown in Fig. 1, the intermediate members 20 are cruciform, one pair of arms 23, 25 engaging blocks of rubber 24, 26, preferably precompressed, in the driving and driven elements 21, 22, while the other pair of arms 27 engage rubber blocks 28, 29 in the annular space between members 21, 22. In operation, rotation of members 20 due to the driving torque is opposed by the couple set up by deformation of the blocks 28, 29. In a second arrangement, Fig. 5, the elements of the coupling are connected by T-shaped links 50 through pins and rubber bushes 54, 55, 56 providing the desired flexibility. In a modification of this construction, Fig. 7 (not shown), the single arm of each link is reversed to lie near the outer periphery, while in a second modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the links are arranged tangentially around the circumference of the driving and driven elements. The resisting couple may also be furnished by a spring ring, Fig. 11 (not shown), or by a rubber annulus, Figs. 14 and 16 (not shown).
