[Also in Group VI] A decorative human rail coating comprises a thin sheet or film of pliable flexible plastic material which includes a desired colouring matter in its composition, coated on one surface with a layer of a waterproof pressure-sensitive adhesive, both sheet or film and layer of adhesive being non-occlusive. The term " non-occlusive " is defined as meaning that the passage of water vapour is permitted. The thin sheet or film may be cast from a polyvinyl chloride composition which prior to casting may be modified by one or more of the following: (a) incorporation of a filler, e.g. sodium chloride or starch, to be leached out for forming the necessary pores; (b) incorporation of fillers which are not leached out and which transmit water vapour, e.g. calcium carbonate and diatomaceous earths; (c) incorporation of various gelatines, starches, or water-sensitive cellulose derivatives; (d) incorporation of liquids, e.g. water, glycerol, diacetin (a di-acetate of glycerol), by emulsifica-. tion if incompatible with the film mix ; (e) incorporation of gases, e.g. air, carbon dioxide, by spreading a foamed mix, or by including a blowing agent in the mix. The waterproof pressuresensitive adhesive composition may be similarly modified, more specifically by (a) sodium chloride being incorporated before spreading and leached out after spreading; (b) water being incorporated in the form of an emulsion with the solvent mix before spreading, the water being dried out with the solvent after spreading; (c) the composition being foamed by the addition of methyl cellulose to the aqueous phase of (b) prior to emulsification, foaming taking place in the mass after it has been spread. As shown in Fig. 2, the pressure-sensitive adhesive may be spread as a pattern, e.g. an openwork fine line pattern, as described in Specification 819,635, on the thin sheet or film which has previously been made non-occlusive. The nail coating may be made non-occlusive by simultaneous mechanical perforation of the thin sheet or film, and the coating of adhesive, as described in Specification 822,051. As shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the adhesive surface 20 of the nail coating may have a strip 21 of pliable plastic material mounted thereon to facilitate manipulation of the nail coating during application to the nail 22 as shown in Fig. 7. Nail coatings of various suitable sizes may be produced in rows, as shown in Fig. 10, the rows being advantageously mounted on a common backing 26 as shown in Fig. 8, and may be packaged in a wallet as shown in Fig. 12.
