Abstract

1442688 Diazotype materials ANDREWS PAPER & CHEMICAL CO 9 April 1974 [10 April 1973] 15661/74 HeadingG2C A diazotype material comprises a flexible paper base 18 having at least two layers coated on to one side of the base, one of the layers 16' containing diazo sensitized components and the other or another layer 20' forming an interlayer and containing vinyl chloride/acrylate copolymer, whereby diazo reproduction 12, 14 is easily erasable by mechanical means without damaging the paper base. The sheet is preferably coated on both sides (as shown) or may only be coated on one side, Fig. 1 (not shown), whereupon the back of the base is given an anticurl layer. The coatings may include a pre-coat 22' for the diazotype layer. The interlayer may also contain silica, Example 1. Suitable pre-coats contain silica, polyvinyl acetate, wax and optionally polyvinyl alcohol Example 1, 4. Suitable diazo compositions are given, Example 1, 4, and an anticurl coating of silica, urea and vinyl acetate copolymer may be used, Example 1. The paper support may first be impregnated with styrene dimer solution and dried to render it translucent, Example 3.
