A coated fabric suitable for use in protective clothing comprises a support material, e.g. a knitted or woven fabric, a fleece of cotton or staple fibres, or a glass fibre fabric, having a smooth homogeneous coating of silicone rubber of at least 300 gm. per square metre. The side of the support material not carrying the coating of silcone rubber may be vapour coated with metal or may be lined with a resilient heatresistant foam material. The seams of the protective clothing may be protected by covering strips of silicone rubber and other parts of the clothing may be reinforced with glass fibre fabric coated with silicone rubber.
