Abstract

[Also in Divisions A5] A belt for persons suffering from back ailments comprises knitted or woven preferably circumferentially elasticated circular fabric, or a strip of fabric having fastening means, and means inside the belt for supporting a pad of thermally insulating material (e.g. cotton wool, supported between cotton fabric layers) the pad being held against the wearer in the lower region on the spine. The belt (Fig. 1, not shown) consists of elastic threads in direction A and woollen thread in direction B, and has an elastic lower edge 4. Crossed elastic strips 5, 6 are stitched inside the belt, and hold the insulating pad 9 in position. The pad may be covered on the surface adjacent the belt fabric with a layer of waterproof material such as oiled silk or plastic which is attached to the pad by quilting stitching 10. Other methods of attaching the pad to the belt are mentioned.
