Abstract

870,952. Pipe joints. BAGNULO, L. March 25, 1959 [March 25, 1958], No. 10322/59. Class 99(1). In a spigot-and-socket joint for pipes of cast iron, asbestos-cement, concrete or synthetic resin, the pipes 10, 11 have portions adapted for abutting relationship and substantially frusto-conical portions 12, 13 oppositely inclined in respect of the abutting portions, and between the latter is located an annular gasket 17 of resilient material. The annular space between the portions 12, 13 is filled by a hardenable material 16, such as cement, molten lead, or synthetic resin, upon compression of the gasket. As shown, the joint may be electrically insulated by a layer of material 33 ; where the pipes are to be electrically connected, longitudinally split, metal blocks 34 are inserted between the portions 12, 13 and expanded by screws 35. In a modification, the portion 13, Fig. 4, is formed with a flange 20 and a groove 21 for a ring 22, the latter centering the pipe 10 and retaining the material 16.
