In a directionallyadjustable angular pipe connection or elbow joint the connecting spigot of the elbow 1 comprises a hollow trunnion 4 working in a union nut 2 the two together being adapted to be screwed into a machine part or a pipe and the trunnion being provided with a collar 5 located in a recess 6 in the nut so as .to form an annular space 8 adapted to receive a packing ring 9; the free end of the trunnion is flanged at- 10 to prevent withdrawal thereof. The space 8 may be greater in height than the thickness of the ring 9 which is acted upon by internal pressure, and the nut may have a recess 13 for the reception of a packing ring 12, the thickness of which is greater than the depth of the recess. In a modification, a lip is formed at the free end of the trunnion and a washer of hard material disposed between the lip and the end face of the screwed part of the nut.
