Abstract

869,837. Control devices for hinged rebated double doors. NEWMAN & SONS Ltd., WILLIAM, and EDGLEY, N. H. Jan. 1, 1960 [March 25, 1959], No. 10282/59. Class 65(1). A control device for a pair of hinged rebated doors 2, 3 comprises an angularly movable stay 28 adapted to engage the door 3 which should close last and a spring-loaded plunger 12 which moves the stay to an operative doorretaining position (as shown) and is caused to hold it in this position by catch means engageable with a part 15 carried by the plunger and controlled by the door 2 which should close first, the plunger 12 being axially adjustable relative to the part 15 to enable the door retaining position of the stay to be varied in angle. The catch means comprises a lever 22 pivoted to the frame 7 of the device at 21 and biased towards the part 15 by a spring 23, the shorter arm 22a of the lever having latching engagement with an abutment 19 on the part 15. The stay is held in the operative position until the door 2 abuts the longer arm 22b of the lever and rotates the lever out of latching engagement with the abutment, the door 3 then closing and rotating the stay to a position parallel to the plane of the closed doors, during which rotation the spring 18 of the plunger is loaded. The plunger engages a heel 31 of the stay and is screwed into a threaded bore 16 in the part 15, the latter being non-rotatably mounted in the frame 7 so that rotation of the plunger effects the axial adjustment. A slot 24 to receive a screwdriver is provided in the end of the plunger for this purpose.
