Abstract

869,633. Polishing floors. BLACK & DECKER Ltd., and BAXTER, J. C. Nov. 8, 1957 [Nov. 12, 1956], No. 34564/56. Class 138(1). A floor polisher comprises a mounting 5 for polishing means, such as one or more rotary brushes 21 or pads, and a driving element therefor engaging with the chuck 9 of an electric hand drill or the equivalent of an electric hand tool. The mounting 5 may accommodate in a bearing 6 a vertical spindle 7 as driving element, shaped at 8 for gripping by the chuck 9 or equivalent, and carrying driving pinion 11 engaging a gear wheel (not shown) to which a brush or a pad is attached. This wheel is engaged by the wheel 13 rotating in the same plane to which a polishing brush 21 or pad is attached. The driven wheels are mounted in bearings 18 (bearing on a thrust washer 17) on spindles 16 secured in bosses on the housing 1. The brushes 21 have snap fastener elements 22, 23, the latter being attached to the wheel hub 19, for holding pads on. A stabilizing element such as a brush 25 between the brushes 21 or pads is supported in rubber beading 24 from an edge of the housing, which has a boss 2 to receive a handle post 3 gripped by a screw in the hole 4.
