Abstract

869,272. Valves. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY Ltd. June 14, 1957 [June 15, 1956; May 10, 1957], Nos. 18571/56 and 14896/57. Class 135. In a butterfly valve in which the spindle 6 is oblique to the plane of the closure disc 1 an inflatable sealing diaphragm 4 is disposed in a diametral plane in the cylindrical pipe 3 to provide a continuous surface for engagement by the periphery of the disc. Pressure fluid for inflating the member 4 is obtained from a source upstream of the valve. The member 4 should only be inflated when the closure is in the shut position ; upon deflation the member 4 is not contacted by the closure during any movement thereof. Specification 782,836 is referred to.
