Abstract

An alloy steel suitable for valve and valve parts of internal combustion engines has a composition within the following range in per cent by weight: C 0.4-1.0; Mn 8.0-20.0; Cr 19.86-25.0; Ni 1.5-6.0; V 0.5-2.5; Si 0-0.5; N 0-0.4; S 0-0.2; Fe the balance. The alloy may be solution treated in the range 2100 DEG F.-2150 DEG F., quenched, and aged in the range 1300-1400 DEG F. to give a hardness of at least 38 on the Rockwell C scale.
