Abstract

<PICT:0868425/IV(c)/1> In a machine wherein textile fabrics in open width are passed through a tank or a series of tanks containing treating liquid, travelling in a sinuous path over and under rollers rotatably mounted in fixed axial positions at the top and bottom of the tank respectively, a pair of frames is mounted at opposite sides of the tank for reciprocation by an eccentric or other means, there being transverse members connecting the frames and extending across the tank so as to engage with and deflect the fabric in the treating liquid. As shown tank 10 is provided with rollers 11, 12 in fixed axial positions. Accommodated in bearings 16 is bar 17 which may be reciprocated since it is connected by pin 18, and rod 19 to eccentric 20. Frames 22 are secured to bar 17 such that transverse members 24 connecting frames 22 engage and deflect fabric 13 when bar 17 is reciprocated. The transverse members 24 may be in the form of rods, bars or rollers, and may be mounted on frames 22 in vertical pairs such that an immersed length of fabric is engaged by only one of the members at a time. Each transverse member 24 may be bent to give it a smooth outward curve in the direction of its fabric engaging surface.
