Abstract

1392693 Washing plant for web treatment F CONTI [Trading as OMEZ OFFICINE MECCANICHE DI ING FULVIO CONTI] 25 June 1973 [26 Feb 1973] 29979/73 Heading D1L A washing plant for unfolded openwidth fabric comprises in combination a unit for introducing fabric into the plant, a plurality of wash stations, at least one box for storing the fabric in short loops and if desired further washing or chemical treatment e.g. optical bleaching therein and a unit for collecting the treated fabric. Each wash station comprises a tank containing liquid, at least one rotating drum preferably perforated on a portion of which rests the fabric, and which is partially immersed in the liquid in the tank, and a plurality of spray elements located adjacent at least one portion of the external surface of the drum and projecting liquid against it from a number of the spray elements disposed above and the remainder of the elements disposed below the surface of the liquid in the tank. The plant also includes means for spreading the fabric out in a direction substantially transverse to its direction of movement upstream and downstream of the rotating drum and means for wringing the fabric located downstream of the drum. Preferably the wash station includes a pump for sucking out the wash liquid contained in the drum and feeding it via a closed cycle to the spray elements. The pump comprises at least one self-cleaning filter and the drum and box heating elements. The levels of the liquid in the washing tanks are controlled automatically as is the tension of the fabric. As shown in figure 1, unit 1 introduces fabric to a first wash station 2, a storage box 3, second and third wash stations 4 and 5, and a collecting unit 7 for the washed fabric. Control of the units is effected by device 6 e.g. one or more photoelectric cells. The storage box includes a pair of conveyors 8 and 9, and ports 11 for wash liquid. The actual wash station is shown in greater detail in figure 4 wherein tank 12 contains liquid at a level controlled by overflow 13, and a hollow rotatable perforated drum 14. Adjacent the drum are spray elements 16 fed by header 42 with liquid from pump 18 by motor 25 (both not shown). Rollers 20 and 21 are widening rollers and downstream from the latter are wringing rollers 22 and 23. Cylinder 24 pulls the fabric through the wash station. The temperature of the liquid is controlled by steam coil 36.
