Abstract

868,071. Abrasive articles. RATCLIFFE, S. Oct. 11, 1957 [Oct. 26, 1956], No. 32715/56. Class 60. An abrasive article, such as a belt or disc, has its surface undulating in cross-section in one or more directions through the article. The surface is formed of a substantially-even layer of abrasive grains 16 which is secured by a layer of glue 15 or other suitable adhesive to a backing 13 formed with ridges 14. The backing may be of woven textile material, in which case the ridges may be produced by insertion of thick weft threads, or of paper, plastic, fibre board or cardboard and the ridges preformed prior to the material receiving a stiffening treatment. The ridge may be curved, of diamond or other pattern, prependicularly or obliquely arranged with respect to the length of the belt, or radiallydisposed on the disc.
