Abstract

866,974. Pneumatic shock absorbers. BRITISH MESSIER Ltd. June 18, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 19952/56. Class 108(3). [Also in Group XXXIII] In an articulated skid for an aircraft undercarriage (see Group XXXIII) relative movement of the elements of the skid is resisted by pneumatic shock absorbers. One, Fig. 2, comprises a cylinder 42 enclosing a piston 40 with a hollow piston rod 41 which receives an inner sleeve member 43. The cavity 44 is pressurised through an air connection 45 and the cylinder is vented at 48. Hydraulic liquid may be supplied at 49 for the purpose of contracting the element to retract the appropriate skid element. The other embodiment comprises a cylinder 52 and two pistons 50, 53 having hollow piston rods arranged telescopically with shoulders 57, 58 to limit extension when the cavity 55 is pressurised through air connection 56. Hydraulic connections 59, 60 are provided to enable the element to be contracted. Specification 809,280 is referred to.
