Abstract

1,216,732. Retractable undercarriages. MESSIER. 27 May, 1968 [29 May, 1967], No. 25319/68. Heading B7G. A retractable undercarriage has the mounting linkage designed so that on retraction the length of the undercarriage leg is first shortened and then lengthened. The undercarriage comprises a housing, 6, Fig. 1, a tube, 5, rotatable in the housing, but not axially movable with respect thereto, a shock absorber, 7, connected at one end to a wheel, 1, and at the other to a slider, 26, a bell-crank lever, 10, connected via a link, 28, to said slider and abutting the housing at 31 when the undercarriage is lowered, a rod, 20, articulated to the other limb of the bell-crank lever and at its other end by a cardan joint, 21, to a brace formed from two arms, 14, 15, and an hydraulic ram, 23. In the " lowered " position, Fig. 1, the ram, 23, contains the whole linkage via the brace and ensures that abutments 30 and 31 remain in contact and provides the means to break the brace at pivot, 19, upon retraction.
