Abstract

866,660. Induction systems. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Nov. 13, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1959], No. 38571/59. Class 7(2). An induction manifold for a multicylinder engine comprises a common inlet conduit 26, Fig. 1, connected to a plurality of branch pipes 28, 29, 30, of equal length and volume leading to the cylinder inlets and tuned to provide a ram effect for supercharging, the branch pipes diverging from the conduit 26 at acute angles so that any two branch pipes form with the conduit 26 a Y formation. The pipes 28 ... 30 preferably diverge symmetrically from the end 36, Fig. 6, of conduit 26 and are joined to one another by welding along the lines 41 ... 43. Alternatively the portion of the pipes adjacent the conduit 26 may be cast as an integral junction piece. In Fig. 1 the inlet 26 is connected to a horizontal type carburetter 22; in modifications the system is shown attached to a vertical carburetter or adapted for use with a fuel injection system.
