Abstract

865,797. Centrifugal separators. FIAT S.p.A. April 27, 1959 [May 3, 1958], No. 14306/59. Class 23 [Also in Group XXIV] A pulley 1, incorporating a centrifugal separator for the lubricating oil of an I.C. engine, and the belt are cooled during rotation by air centrifugally driven through radial bores 1c connecting with the sides of the pulley through transverse bores 1d. Vanes 1e may assist the air flow. Oil is supplied to the separator, formed by a dished part of the pulley and a plate 2 bolted thereto, through passages 2c around the crankshaft 7 and is forced by vanes 2a on a disc 2 past a deflecting disc 5 towards blades 1a within the pulley and flows back to the engine through a central bore in the crankshaft.
