[Also in Division F1] In a motor-driven fan unit for a liquid-cooled I.C. engine 13, comprising an axial-flow fan 2 driven directly by an electric motor 9, a centrifugal clutch connects the fan to the engine when the speed of the electric motor exceeds a predetermined value. At engine speeds above a given value, e.g. 2200 r.p.m., the voltage supply to the electric motor is increased to increase the speed of the electric motor and thereby cause a pair of clutch elements 16, 16<SP>1</SP> to move radially outwards against the action of an annular tension spring 20 to engage friction linings 17, 17<SP>1</SP> with an engine-driven pulley wheel 22. The elements 16, 16<SP>1</SP> are connected to the fan for rotation therewith by a pair of pins 15, 15<SP>1</SP> fixed to a fan hub plate 4 and received by recesses 18, 18<SP>1</SP> in the elements 16, 16<SP>1</SP>.
