863,543. Typewriters. OLYMPIA WERKE A.G. Aug. 21, 1957 [Sept. 8, 1956], No. 26387/57. Class 100(4) In a keyboard actuated electric time-control device for typewriters and like machines where, upon the depression of a type key 1, a power roller 18 is switched on, and the automatic switching off is delayed each time a key is operated by means of a, Geneva wheel mechanism, a magnet 14 is provided so that a full action of the key to effect its function, is delayed until after the power roller is operating. Upon the depression of any key 1, its first stage of operation vertically depresses a locking bar 21, pivots a lever 3, and a latch 7 releases a slide 16, 16a. This slides to the left under the pull of a spring 19 and opens contacts 21 preventing operation of the magnet 14 At the same time an arm 16f of the slide 16 pivots a bell crank 23 which axially displaces a disc 25, and a pin 25a thereon is moved from.a recess in a Geneva wheel sector 32. A spring 34 pulls the sector against a stop 35, and contacts 37 are closed to switch on a motor driving the power roller 18. A cam 17 is now driven and shifts the slide 16 back to the right and contacts 21 close, magnet 14 operates, and by means of linkage 13, 12 the locking bar 21 pivots and finally releases the keyboard. The power roller is thus fully running before a type-action occurs. Each time the power roller rotates, a fourmember linkage 39-42 advances a ratchet wheel 28 which would, if no further key were depressed, pivot the sector 32 counter clockwise and eventually cause a resilient toggle to snap against a stop 36c and the motor contacts 37 to be opened. If however typing occurs a universal bail 24 and lever 30 are actuated to pivot the bell crank 23; this axially displaces the pin 25a so that the sector pivots clockwise and maintains the motor contacts 37 closed. A switching-off time control setting lever 47 adjusts the four-member linkage 39-42 and controls the amount of rotation of the ratchet wheel 28.
