Abstract

863,483. Extruding; forging. KABELUND METALLWERKE NEUMEYER A.G. March 25, 1957, No. 9653/57. Class 83 (4). A hollow spindle 7, Fig. 4, is made by cold backwardly extruding a round steel blank coated with phosphate into cup-shape 6, Fig. 3, and then cold forwardly extruding the cup into a spindle 7, Fig. 4. The blank has an external chamfer 2 for centring purposes and is coated with phosphate to retain lubricant during extrusion. In die 4, Fig. 3, this blank is backwardly extruded into cup shape 6 by a punch 3 and then removed by an ejector 5. Cold forward extrusion is performed in a die 8, Fig. 4, by a punch 10. Finally the spindle is pressed into final shape by a further die and punch, Fig. 5 (not shown). The spindle may have a uniform external diameter, Fig. 6 (not shown).
