Abstract
863,364. Making drill chuck casings; extruding; forging. KABELUND METALLWERKE NEUMEYER A.G. March 25, 1957, No. 9652/57. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A drill chuck casing is made by cold backwardly extruding a disc-shaped blank within a die 2, Fig. 3, by a punch 3 to form an annular workpiece 5 and then cold forwardly extruding the latter in a die, Fig. 4, by a punch 7. During this operation an internal thickening 6<SP>1</SP> is provided which in a final pressing stage within a die 2<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, is transferred into external longitudinal grooves 7. The starting disc, which may be cut from steel bar, has an external chamfer 1<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a central depression in one end face for centring purposes; the disc may be coated with phosphate to retain lubricant during extrusion. This coating may be formed by applying layers of metal or inorganic metal salts. An ejector 4 removes the workpiece 5 from die 2.
