Abstract

862,796. Connecting branches to mains. RHEINISCHES METALLWERK G.m.b.H. June 25, 1959 [Aug. 25, 1958], No. 21881/59. Class 99(1). The housing 15 of a boring valve or cock is clamped on to a synthetic plastic pipe 10 by a rubber covered steel band 16 which also draws together semi-circular shell parts 12, 13 of a clip 11 surrounding the pipe 10 at the place of connection to the valve housing, the latter being provided with an externally tapered annular extension 22 which sealingly engages through compressible packing 23 a correspondingly shaped opening 14 provided in the clip 11 for the passage of fluid from the pipe 10. As shown, the clip 11 is provided at its ends with a circumferential reinforcing rib 31 and the part 12 has a thickened portion 27 providing a seat 28 for the valve housing. The housing is formed with flanges 18, 21 to which the band 16 is connected by a pin 17 and a bolt and nut assembly 19, 20 respectively. The flange 21 is provided with a slot 29 to allow for adjustment of the bolt and nut 19, 20 according to the pipe diameter and is curved to form a trough in which a correspondingly curved washer is fitted. The packing is approximately semi-circular in cross-section and has a tapering configuration. The clip 11 is of plastic or of light alloy protected by rubber, plastic or tar. In a modification a boring bridge is clamped on the pipe and a valve is screwed into the bridge.
