862,061. Spindle-mountings. SCRAGG & SON Ltd., E. Aug. 5, 1959 [Aug. 16, 1958], No. 26416/58. Class 120(2) A mounting assembly for a spindle 13 comprises a casing 3 carrying bearings for the spindle which is extended to carry a head 4 and at 5 for engaging a driving-belt 6, and an arm carrying a cradle 2 to receive the casing, means, e.g. a screw-tightened strap 10 or a clip to hold the casing firmly on the cradle. The arm is secured to a stub-shaft mounted on a member 1 secured to the machineframe 9, a spring 8 serving to urge the arm to a position where the spindle extension engages the belt. The spring may be arranged as a toggle so that the spindle may be dis-engaged from the belt by rotating the arm so that it is held against a stop by the spring. Alternatively, the arm may be held in the 'inoperative' position by a catch. Bearings 7 are disposed between the casing and the spindle, and the outer surface of the casing may be contoured to allow the casing to be rotated to a position where it is accurately located, the inside of the casing being shaped to assist this location. The arm may be stationary and the belt brought into driving-engagement with the spindle extension by a belt-deflecting pulley. The head 4 has cross-member(s) around which the yarn is threaded to produce the false-twist and may be disposed at the end of the extension 5.
