Abstract

859,464. Coal ploughs. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHœTTE WESTFALIA. Oct. 7, 1959 [Oct. 10, 1958], No. 34028/59. Class 68(1). A coal plough has in front of the plough tool, a kerfing bit which is mounted on a pivot lying in the working direction of the plough, the kerf bit being adjustable about its pivot to vary the cutting height of the bit. As shown in section in Fig. 2, the plough carriage 10 has a guide channel 12 which engages a guide surface on the conveyer, and the support 17, which carries the kerfing bit 16, is pivoted in the carriage 10 by end pins 18. A screwed rod 19 is pivoted at 20 to the support 17 and is adjusted by a nut 22 which bears on ball and cup washers 24 and is pressed downwards by a spring ring 25. The kerfing bit is shown in dotted lines in two positions of adjustment, the bit being arranged in sets of three cutters which are staggered so that each successive cutter deepens the groove, or are staggered to produce a widening of the groove by successive cutters.
