Abstract

1342133 Bar stock feeding G K N MACHINERY Ltd 24 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 12352/71 Heading B3B A stock steadying device for controlling lateral deflection of bar stock in a bar stock feeding arrangement for a lathe or screwing machine tool comprises a guide assembly 20 which defines an opening through which the bar stock passes, and bearing means 13 supporting the guide assembly so that it can rotate with the bar stock, the guide assembly being adjustable to vary the size of the opening, and the operation of a jack 26 is controlled in conjunction with the movement of a bar stock feed pusher to open the guide assembly to allow the pusher to pass therethrough. The guide assembly 20 comprises jaws 24 movable along a conical internal surface to adjust its opening the jaws being movable along dove-tail guides and being spring biased away from each other. The jaws are moved by moving a sleeve 30 which carries within a thrust bearing 31, 32 a ring 33 which bears on the jaws through further dovetail guides. The sleeve 30 is moved by the jack 26. The jaws may have a variety of gripping face contours for passing therethrough round, square or hexagonal bars. Frusto-conical surfaces 39 on the jaws enable any protuberance on a bar to push the jaws forward and outwards to allow it to pass.
