857,921. Agitator screws for mixers. FRANCAISE POUR LA SEPARATION, L'EMULSION ET LE MELANGE (PROCEDES S. E. M.) S. A. Feb. 28, 1957 [March 3, 1956], No. 6708/57. Class 86 Relates to a screw propeller for a mixer, having a thin blade section in which the ratio between the thickness and the length of any chord, is between 1 and 6%. The blades are cut, after marking out as described with reference to Fig. 1 (not shown), from a rolled metal sheet of the required thickness and having a cylindrical or other surface of revolution (see Fig. 2), the edges thereafter being machined to provide a rounded leading edge and a sharp trailing edge. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the blades 12, 13 have notched root extensions of constant chord length, engaging around a drive shaft 11 and welded between two plates 14, 15 rigid with the shaft. In other embodiments the blades have extensions which embrace the shaft or a hub thereon and are welded thereto. If desired each blade may be reinforced in its central portion by a metal sheet welded thereto. In still another embodiment the blade is reinforced by welding strap plates between the latter and theshaft or hub.
