Abstract

1,250,271. Comminuting apparatus. GULF OIL CORP. 22 Jan., 1969 [19 Feb., 1968], No. 3515/69. Heading B2A. Comminuting apparatus comprises a horizontal cylinder 1 with an inlet 10 and outlet 11 and a shaft 2. An auger 3 and cutting blades 4 are secured to the shaft which passes through seals 5 at opposite ends of the cylinder and is supported in bearings 6. The flat sides of the blades 4 are perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 2. The blades may be stainless steel welded to a thin-walled tube fitted over the shaft. The apparatus is driven by a motor 7 at a shaft speed of about 5000 r.p.m. or by a variable-speed drive, and is used for comminution of slurries of fertilizers with phosphoric acid.
