856,790. Non-atmospheric pilot jets. ENTWICKLUNGSBAU PIRNA VEB. April 18, 1959, No. 13308/59. Class 75(3). [Also in Group XII] An ignition device for a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine comprises an ignition chamber 2 communicating with the combustion chamber 1, the ignition chamber having a fuel injection nozzle 3 disposed on the axis thereof, an ignition plug 4, and a swirl device 6 located in front of the injection nozzle air tapped from the main combustion chamber secondary air supply passing through the swirl device and being caused to swirl in the same direction as the fuel issuing from the fuel injector, the angle of the spray cone from the latter being thereby increased. The swirl device 6 comprises a ring member 7 having tangentially-directed air guides passages 8 on its upper surface, air flowing through the ducts 10 as indicated by the arrows passing through the guide passages 8 and being caused to swirl in the same direction as the fuel discharged from the injector 3. The ring member 7 is also formed adjacent its periphery with axiallyextending ducts 9 through which combustionsupporting air also enters the ignition chamber.
