Abstract

A fuel injector (22d) extends through a wall (24) defining an intake passageway (Pi) leading to a combustion chamber (16d) of the engine, the nozzle body (30) of the fuel injector being located to define an annular air induction chamber (C1) around the nozzle body, and means (28) for swirling air supplied from the chamber C1 into the intake passageway, so that injected fuel mixed with the swirled air to improve atomization. The air may be drawn from upstream of a throttle valve V or may be supplied by a pump. <IMAGE>
