Abstract

614,146. Piston packing. HYDRAULIC BRAKE CO. July 10, 1946, No. 20606. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1945. [Class 122 (i)] A rubber cup-washer 7, as used in hydraulic brake systems, has a circumferential groove in which a metallic split ring 14 is located. The gap between the ends of the ring 14 is covered by an angle member 15. The ring 14 has a normal diameter less than that of the cylinder 8 and is adapted to expand against the cylinder wall under the action of the fluid pressure. Ducts 19, communicating with a groove 17, are provided in the washer 7 for aiding the flow of brake fluid past the washer, when the piston 9 and washer 7 are moved in the non-compressive direction by the spring 10.
