Abstract

853,976. Change-speed gearing. SCHLEPPERWERK NORDHAUSEN VEB. Jan. 8, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 749/58. Class 80 (2). Combined change-speed and reverse gearing in which a number of reverse ratios at least equal to the number of forward ratios less one is achieved by the use of a double width gear on a first shaft meshing with one of a pair of equal spur gears on a second shaft, a further gear being axially slidable on a third shaft to engage either the remaining crown of the double gear or the second of the equal gears for forward or reverse driving. An input shaft 1 carries a double width gear 4 meshing with one gear of a gear pair 6, a sliding gear 5 on a layshaft 3 can engage either the other gear 6 or the gear 4 for reverse or forward drive respectively to a three-speed gear having an output shaft 2. In a second embodiment forward and reverse drives are obtained by a sliding gear on the driving shaft engaging one of the gears 6 or a double width gear rigid with the layshaft. A single and a double sliding gears on the output shaft provide three speeds in each direction. In a third embodiment the input shaft carrier rigid therewith' two gears which are engageable with a gear freely mounted on the output shaft and a gear sliding on the layshaft to provide forward and reverse. A single and a double sliding gear on the output shaft and a dog clutch between the input shaft gear and the single sliding gear provide four forward and three reverse ratios.
