Abstract

852,757. Locking nuts. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES Ltd. Aug. 7, 1959 [May 14, 1958], No. 15458/58. Class 89(1). A self-locking-nut comprises a body 1 with a screwed-bore and a recess 2 in the bearing-faceend, a ring 5 of resilient, deformable-material housed in the recess, and a compression-ring 6 partly housed in the recess so as to project beyond the bearing-face. As the nut is tightened against a workpiece 10, ring 6 causes ring 5 to deform against the bolt-threads and the wall of the recess, to lock the nut on the bolt. Radialnotches 4 in the end-face of the recess key the ring 5 to the nut. Ring 5 may be of nylon or other hard-plastics or hard-vulcanized-fibre. Ring 6 may have a part-conical-exterior, and be retained in assembly with body 1 and ring 5 by indenting the recess-wall. The end of ring 6, which engages the ring 5, may be bevelled, as shown.
