Abstract

852,508. Valves. ASCOT GAS WATER HEATERS Ltd. Feb. 18, 1957 [Feb. 17, 1956], No. 5067/56. Class 135. The supply of gas from an inlet 3, Fig. 1, to the burner of a water heater is controlled by a main lift-valve 6 closed by a spring 23 and opened by a diaphragm responsive to the pressure-drop across a Venturi in a water section, not shown, bolted to the casing 1. The inlet 3 opens to the valve 6 via openings 10 in a guide 9 controlled by a flanged anodizedaluminium sleeve-valve 18, the movement of which is defined by a clip 20 and plate 21 ; the walls of the sleeve valve 18 are bulged to reduce the area of contact with the guide 9. The stem 13 of the main valve 6 passes through the guide 9, that also embodies the main valve seat. The rate of gas flow to the burner is coritrolled by a manual by-pass valve 24, Fig. 2, comprising cylindrical member with a flat portion 25 ; the valve is adjusted by a slotted boss 27, and held and sealed in position by a threaded ring 28 and a plug 29, respectively. A pilot burner, not shown, may be supplied with gas from the inlet 3 through a passage 31, Fig. 1. The Provisional Specification also describes a casing for a gas-fired water-heater.
