Abstract

852,411. Forging nuts; jointing by forging. ROSAN ENGINEERING CORPORATION. June 24, 1957 [July 9, 1956], No. 19826/57. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A fastener, e.g. a nut, to be secured to a sheetmetal panel 20, Fig. 2, comprises a tubular body 11 with a flange 16 at one end and a flange 17 spaced from flange 16 to form a recess 18. The periphery of flange 17 is knurled and the bore 12 is either plain or screw-threaded. The body end remote from flange 16 has slits 14 which are closed, thus rendering the unit self-locking. In use, the panel has a hole 21 to receive flange 16, and when flange 17 is pressed against the panel the periphery of the hole 21 flows into recess 18 and the knurls bite into the panel surface. The panel around the hole 21 may be dimpled to assist the flow of metal.
